Creative color design

The assignment was to create a painting using 84 different colors. The reason there were that many colors is because it was three tints and three shades of each of the 12 colors on the color wheel. I started out by sketching three designs on a piece of paper and chose this one because it was the most interesting. Then I sketched it out on a piece of canvas paper and started painting. I had the colors go from dark to light because it gave it a cool effect. It took me a really long time to finish the painting because I had to mix all of the colors and the shades needed a lot of coats. The painting is just all of the colors coming from the top left corner and forming things that look like tubes. The background is grey and the end of the tubes are dark grey. For this painting I used acrylic paint in red, yellow, blue, black, and white. The principles and elements of art that I used were color, line, value, pattern, and contrast. Color and value are used in each of the 12 sections. One section is the shades and tints of one of the colors from the color wheel. Line is used to separate each section and make it look like the top left corner is further away. Pattern is the repetition of the tubes and how the colors are organized. Contrast is the difference between how colorful the tubes are and the plain grey background. The final product turned out pretty similarly to my original design, the only thing about this project that was a problem was how much time it took for me to finish it.
