Linocut relief print

black and white

hand colored

alternate background

artist's choice

This project was to create our own prints. First we made practice prints first of things that are opposites. Then I found a picture I wanted to use for the final print of some flowers in a jar. I used photo shop to turn the picture into only black and white. Then I outlined it in pencil onto the block of linoleum. I left the places that I wanted to be colored and carved the rest out of the block. Then I had to make the four prints which were black and white, hand colored, alternate background, and artist's choice. I was able to come in during advisory and make the first three prints but I ran out of time for the last one. For the alternated background I used a piece of paper from a wallpaper book. I didn't really like it but there wasn't anything better that I could find. I brought a print home and colored it in with colored pencils. I did a stripes and dots pattern in the background of the print that doesn't look very good. I made the artist's choice print in another class. I decided to do two different colors. I did a layer of red and then a layer of blue on top. I liked how the last print turned out.
