This is a drawing of some birds flying off toward the sunset. This project is called beautiful oops because you start out with some random drops of ink to learn to make mistakes into art. I wasn't sure what to turn the ink spots into at first but the biggest one had two line going out to the side likes wings so I turned it into a bird. Then the smaller dots became birds that were farther away. The top dot wasn't very round so I turned it into a pattern on another birds feathers. That bird was facing the other way so it couldn't be flying with the rest, instead it is sitting on a wire. The dots were all gathered in one part of the paper so I had to fill the empty space with some sort of background. I decided to put a sunset in the background and some clouds to fill the space.
I started coloring the background with colored pencils but when I got home I switched to oil pastels so I could practice using them. I didn't do a very good job of blending the oil pastels though so it looks kind of messy. I turned the pink of the sunset into a pink ocean because I thought it would make it more interesting. I went over the clouds with black pen to make them look more like a cartoon.
The elements of art that I used for this are line, shape, color, and space. I used line for the power lines and shape for the birds and the clouds. I used color in the sunset and space by having a lot of space around the clouds and birds. The principles of design that I used are contrast, emphasis, and balance. I used contrast because the background is very colorful and the birds are just black silhouettes. I think that the thing your eyes are drawn to is the bird sitting on the wire because it is different that the other birds and it is near the middle of the picture. I used balance because there are things to look at on both side of the wires.
I don't really like how this turned out because the idea of birds flying in front of a sunset is boring. If I had taken more time to think of an idea I would probably like it more.
