Artist Statement
The goal of this project was to learn the basics of photoshop by drawing over a selfie taken on photo booth. I was at school when I took the picture so I had my mask on which I think makes the drawing look a little more interesting because you can only see my eyes.
This was made digitally and i have only ever done digital drawings on an iPad with procreate so using photoshop was kind of difficult.I started by tracing the lines of the photo and then lines of the shadow to make sections where the different colors would go. I used the color dropper tool to match the colors and then filled in the sections with those colors.
I experimented with processes by learning how to use the tools on photoshop. I had trouble with changing the image size and finding the color fill tool but once I figured it out I was able to add more details like the shadows and make the sections clearer. I used color to show where the highlights and shadows are.and there is emphasis on my eyes because they are more detailed and the mask covers the other half of my face. I used a few different values in my hair because I got a lot of different colors in different sections with the color dropper. My next steps could be to continue learning how to make art on photoshop because with this piece I was just learning a few basic things.
