In person, before you give the client a quote, ask them if they have a budget. This will give you a good indication if their expectations of cost match their expectations of the work involved.
In person, always provide a quote if consulting a new service for a client.
Break down a quote into sections rather than give the client the total at once, that can scare people.
Do not ever quote over the phone. You need to see a client's hair to be able to fully understand what you are dealing with. Be clear about that with the client and try and book in a consultation.

INFORMATION: Nobody likes a surprise when it comes to a bill. One of the things that frustrates clients about hairdressers in general, is that the hairdresser doesn’t quote. So when the client finishes the service they get left with a hefty bill. It’s not a good way to treat your clients.
