Year 5

In year 5, learners can begin to choose how they show what they have understood by using technology to create work, they should be looking to implement the skills they have developed in previous years and look to develop others.

The Ideas shared within this section are based on the progression map example, this does not mean that these should be taken as expectations, but as possibilities.

NB. It will be important when learners are given the choice of how they show their work, they are not allowed to always choose the same medium. Asking them to mix up their choices, so that they continue to develop their skills and application in the Apps.

Just2Easy

Animations

Learners can continue to use JIT5 Animate to explain different processes.

They should now be adding text and using images they have selected to create more complex animations.

Coding

Within Just2Easy, J2Code Visual can start to be used to develop an understanding of coding a sprite.

Using Level 2/3, learners can add loops to their creations.

By creating animations through their coding, learners can create stories or greeting card inlays.

Google/Office365/J2Office

Digital Learning Platform (DLP)

Learners can continue to access their 'assignments' through either Google Classroom or Microsoft TEAMS.

This can be explained to learners as their digital book, it is where they will find out the work which has been set.

NB. For teachers, this will allow them to organise the work of their learners under the topics of the 6 AOLEs.

Storage

Learners continue to use and understand their online storage.

They will be able to create and share documents from their online storage and change the sharing permissions for these.

Learners can also work within shared drives to complete projects or access shared documents/pictures.

NB. The permissions should only ever be changed to be shared within their school domain (HWB).

Presentations

Learners can create their presentations by planning what they want them to include.

Learners can begin to add hyperlinks to their work, this could be through linking pages in a slide or by adding links to external sites.

Learners can write a script to support their presentation, this will help them organise their order of animations.

Word processors

Learners can continue to use word processors to support their written work. Increasing their use of additional organisational features:

Databases & Spreadsheets

Learners can begin to create their databases and spreadsheets.

As well as Sorting the information, they can be introduced to using formulas to support modelling the data they have added.

They should also be able to select data to create graphs.

Online Forms/Surveys

Learners can start to plan what questions can be asked in Forms

Learners can plan what information they need to collect and what the responses will be used for.

Learners can also start to create their Forms.

They can also create quizzes which have predetermined answers, providing immediate feedback to the person completing the Form.

Google Sites/Microsoft OneNote

Learners can continue to curate their digital work in a Website-Google Sites or a Notebook-OneNote.

Continuing to reflect on their work in their e-portfolios, learners can take ownership of the reflection of their work.

Learners can begin to create their Sites/OneNotes as a presentation tool.

Additional apps

Minecraft

Using Minecraft to build against a criterion, learners can continue to add signs or boards to which they can add information.

They are also able to add NPCs to their builds, these can be used to explain the build, or when retelling a story, they can be used as the characters to explain what has happened to them.

Learners are able to start making use of command blocks to code and complete the 'hour of code' activities.

Britannica Education

Learners should know now that Britannica Education is a trusted source of information.

Britannica Education should now be the first point of reference for learners completing their research.

Learners should be aware that they should reference in their work the sites they have used to gather information.

Adobe Express

Video- Learners can create their videos, adding pictures or videos from the bank of images. Or they can add pictures/videos from their Google Drive.

Learners could add their pictures from Minecraft and add audio over the top to explain what they have built and why, they can also add the videos they have created in Flip.

Poster- Learners can start to create and plan posters/infographics on the work they are covering in class. They can add animations to their text and images to create infographics which they may be aware of from social media.

NB. All of their Adobe creations can be added to their e-portfolios by embedding their links.
