Maths & Numeracy AOLE

Here are some examples of activities which can be done using digital technology to support the Maths & numeracy AOLE.

These could be adapted to suit the topic or theme in the classroom.

Learners should develop their ability to demonstrate their understanding of that knowledge in various media.

The teacher's role is to ensure that learners are equipped with the knowledge of the subject area and an understanding of the tools to express what has been learnt.

Mathematics & Numeracy

Hwb Applications

Adobe Express

Maths- Learners can create documents where they show their understanding of the concepts they have learnt. These could be videos explaining the steps taken to answer questions, social media-style posts explaining principles, webpages with revision notes

Numeracy- Adobe apps can be used to exemplify what they have been covering in class, making explicit reference to the numeracy skills which have been included and covered.

Britannica Education

Maths- Learners can develop an understanding of the historical developments within mathematics, by looking at figures like Pythagoras.

Minecraft for Education

Maths- Make use of J2Data to develop an understanding of spreadsheets and databases, they can use J2Code to develop learners' understanding of coding concepts. Use TTblast to support learners' understanding of Times Tables.

Minecraft for Education

Maths- Make use of the maths worlds to support different skills. Create bridges using angles, understand fractions through Minecraft, subtraction and regrouping and many more.

Possible Classroom Activities

Infographics

How to create infographics using Adobe Creative Cloud Express...

Learners can create infographics which explain mathematical processes, or the steps needed to answer a question.

Podcasts

Using Podcasts in the Classroom

Learners being able to create their podcasts will allow them to explain what they have understood about a topic they have been learning about. A podcast allows learners to interact and share information in a 'semi-formal' manner. They can plan their conversation and have a lead 'interviewer' who can direct the conversation with questions, they will need to develop their listening skills to allow their conversation to not seem scripted. TIP...the less scripted content the more real the conversation.

This conversation could be to explain the different ways in which a problem has been solved.

Videos

Create Videos to explain what has been learnt and understood in the classroom

Learners can use several apps within the Hwb platform to create Videos.

They can explain how they have completed a task, they can use illustrations on screen or using drawing tools to denote how questions have been answered.

Minecraft

Using Minecraft in the Classroom

Minecraft has numerous worlds created with tasks and activities to engage learners in understanding mathematics using Minecraft.
