Possible Questions & Answers

What Questions could a Digital Lead expect?? And what could the answers to these questions be??

These answers are those which could be given in each circumstance. If your school has different answers to these questions, they will be correct for your school.

The support here is for schools which do not yet have answers to these questions.

Digital Lead

How do you know your school is delivering the DCF?

We make use of a Spreadsheet to allow teaching staff to evidence where the DCF has been implemented as part of their lessons. They note the lesson activity which the DCF statements were a part of.

Has your school identified levels of progression in the tools/applications learners use?

As a school, we have identified the skills which our learners are introduced to at various stages of their time at our school. This allows us to ensure that when a learner is using a tool/app they are either reinforcing the skills that have already been developed, developing their understanding of the additional features of the tool/app or they are using that tool/app alongside other tools/applications.

How has your school identified sustaining the levels of technology in place, and how is going to ensure it can include future developments in technology?

As a school we have developed a Digital Strategy; we use Wales' Hwb platform, which allows our learners to make use of up-to-date tools to support our learners in completing their digital tasks.

We have achieved Flintshire's recommendations on the device-to-learner ratio.

To maintain these levels of digital devices we have set aside 'xx' amount each year to ensure we can replace our devices at their 'end-of-life'.

Our ability to ensure that our practices remain up-to-date will be in the choices we make when renewing our devices. As a school, we aim to support our learners with the tools they need to develop the skills they will need in the future.

How does your school support staff with maintaining their levels of digital competence?

Staff have access to support tools to understand how to use specific applications with video support training.

They also have support with ideas on how they can incorporate these digital tools into their pedagogy, and how they can use digital to support the other AOLEs.

How do you monitor/assess the levels of digital work throughout the school?

By making use of our tracking/mapping tool we can identify the learning activities which are done to allow the DCF skills to be developed by our learners.

This allows me (digital lead) to identify the activities which have been done to cover the DCF skills...

either- I am then able to look at these activities in the teacher's MS Teams/Google Classroom to see the work being completed/created by learners. or I am then able to access our learners' e-portfolios to look at the work completed/created by learners.

These allow me to cross-reference the activities being completed in classes with work being created by our learners.

How do you foster links between the school and parents to ensure that online safety is developed in your school?

As a school, we ensure that the Citizenship strand of the DCF is implemented into the learning experiences of our learners, as can be seen in our DCF tracking/mapping tool.

We also make use of Google's 'Be Internet Legends' activities and ensure that our learners understand the importance of the characteristics within this programme.

Teachers

How have you been supported in knowing at what level digital skills should be in your classroom?

As a staff, we identified the different skills we wanted learners to develop throughout their time at the school. We have tried to build up the steps our learners will go through to develop a good understanding of the digital tools and applications they have available to them.

This supports us in knowing the skills that our learners should have previously developed or been able to develop, as well as the skills that we are expected to support in the tasks we use in the classroom.

What support have you had in using the digital tools/applications availible to you?

We have access to a website (this one) where there are videos to support our understanding of how to use the different tools/applications at our disposal.

There are several pages with classroom ideas on the different levels of technology integration or examples of how technology can support the AOLEs.

Learners

Are you able to choose which applications you choose to do your work on?

Answers will vary depending on the age of the learner. Learners should be aware of...

PS1&2 Learners may be directed to which app they use as they are developing their understanding of the 'basics' of the applications.

PS3 Learners may be directed when new features are being introduced but may start to suggest to the class teacher which app is the best to complete a task. The teacher can then go through the apps suggested and analyse which is most suitable.

PS4&5 Learners should be at a point where they can choose how they present their work. When learners have success criteria they should be able to choose the app/apps which can be used to best show their understanding.

How are you given feedback on the digital work you produce?

Answers will vary depending on the age of the learner. Learners should be aware of...

When learners are working on a similar task feedback may be given by the class teacher to the whole class verbally, NB. Not all feedback needs to be written on a learner's work.

When working with success criteria learners will be able to peer assess and provide feedback on where pieces of work are achieving the criteria or where work may need to be edited to achieve the success criteria.

When work is being completed over a longer term the class teacher may provide feedback in the learning platform of choice, learners should know how to action this feedback in their work.

Do you know your Hwbcymru login? Do you remeber the password? What is it?

Please ensure your learners know this is a trick question. They should be keeping their login details to themselves.

Their login is like their address, it is ok for people you know to know your login as it is also their email.

Their password is the key to their house, others do not need to go into their houses without them being there, sharing their password is giving someone else the key to your house.

DON'T DO IT!!
