E-portfolios
allow learners to reflect on the learning that has taken place
An E-portfolio allows learners to curate and reflect on the work they have created.
Learners should be able to add work they have created to show their learning and understanding of various applications. Once these are added learners can reflect on the learning process.
They can help students develop digital literacy skills.
They can help students learn how to manage their time and organize their work.
They can help students develop self-assessment skills.
They can help students build a professional identity.
They can help students prepare for college and the workforce.
Some points of reflection may be:
What were they asked to do within the task? (Write a synopsis of the activity)
How has the task developed aspects of Wales' four purposes? (say which and how)
What problems did they overcome? (Reflect on experiences and explain how they were overcome)
Reflect against a set criteria? (Identify which aspects of a criteria have been achieved and explain how)
Learners are the owners of their e-portfolios, which allows them to transition from their primary setting to their secondary*
Develop an understanding of how to create and curate a live website, which showcases their understanding, development and skills.
*If schools make use of the same Domain, this is possible in Wales through the HwbCymru platform.
Google Sites Example
Templates can be created by individual schools, these can be tailored to specific wants/needs and to be shared with their learners to make their own copies.
Case Study (Golftyn CP, Connah's Quay, Flintshire) for Rethinking Assessment
Before you start to use portfolios, it is useful to...
...be using Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams.
Learners and staff know how to use their Google Drive or OneDrive
Understand how to share, link and upload their work
Once Learners have their template they can begin to make it their own.
Home Page- All about them, work in class can be done to support completing this page
The Four Purposes- are reference points for learners to use when reflecting on what they have learnt.
Year Pages- Learners can add work they create in class, adding a synopsis of what they learnt and which elements of the four purposes they feel the work helped develop.
Achievements outside of school- Learners can add aspects of their lives outside of school which they are proud of, or they feel have supported their development. Learners can be encouraged to reflect on these additions against the four purposes, allowing learners to understand how all their experiences can support their development.
Digital Badges- Learners can add digital achievements to their portfolios and explain what they had to do to achieve their awards.

How to set up your e-portoflios using Google Sites
Teacher
Create a Template for your school to use
Create a folder in your own My Drive
Make a copy of your school Template and move this to the folder you have created
Click to Share this folder, in General Access change this to HWB with VIEW only
In Google Classroom Create an assignment and share the link to your Folder
Learner
Open Google Classroom and the assignment on e-portfolios
Click on the link to the Folder
Learners then right-click and Make a copy
In their My Drive learners then go to their copy of the portfolio- it will be named 'Copy of...' the portfolio name
Learners then Rename their portfolios 'Their name e-portfolio'
They must also share their portfolio, they share their Published portfolio with Hwb
Learners are also able to change the sharing settings in their Classroom folder (this has all their work from Google Classrooms) as this then changes the permission of all the work in that folder
Learners can now open their e-portfolios
They change 'Your name' to their names
In the top-left, they make sure their name is the title of the webpage
Learners can now Publish their site (top-right in Blue)
Make a copy of the link to their portfolio, they may need to change the name to one which has not been used, adding the school name can help this
Teacher
Open the Google Classrooms assignment and add a Google Doc, which allows all learners to Edit the Doc
On the Google Doc add a table which allows learners to add their names and the link they have copied
Ask learners to open the Google Classroom Assignment (they may need to refresh the page)
Get learners to add their link to the Google Doc
Once all learners have added their links edit the assignment and remove the learners' ability to edit the document by changing it to view only
