Ysgol Derwenfa is a Primary School in Leeswood. Podcasts have been implemented as a means for learners to discuss their understanding of topics and begin conducting Podcasts.
Learners used Adobe Podcast on Chromebooks to create their podcasts.
The example below is from the year 5/6 class and is their first voyage into making and understanding podcasts.
The introduction from the class teacher followed:
In the first session, we explored what makes a good podcast, shared tips and tricks, and brainstormed a few ideas about the topic. Next, they wrote a quick script (nothing too detailed as we wanted the conversation to flow naturally)
In the second session, they recorded their podcasts, downloaded both the audio file and transcription, and uploaded them to Google Classroom. We then explored the transcription, printing it out and editing it by comparing it to the audio. Then, we did some peer and self-assessment. They all found it pretty straightforward, and they've already asked to do another!
Learners were offered a selection of topics to discuss in their Podcasts, to support their understanding of the process of creating a podcast. Roles can be assigned.
Eisteddfod - discussing the event that took place last Thurs
Chocolate rocks - Discussing our science experiment
When the sky falls by Phil Earle - Book review
Holes by Louis Sachar- summarising what we've read so far.
Learners have created podcasts about their recent Eisteddfod activities. Assigning roles to each learner and making simple notes to guide them through their conversation.
