However, the process of using NotebookLM to create can be shared with learners. Staff can create resources to be shared with learners and used to check for accuracy. This will develop a learner's understanding of the need to double-check the results of AI for hallucinations.
Remember that all AI-generated material should be checked for Bias and Hallucinations
NotebookLM works slightly differently from Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. Where Gemini and Copilot access the Web for the data that is used in what they create. NotbookLM works specifically with the data which is added to it. To use NotebookLM, you:
Add the sources of information you want to use
Use the Chat to ask specific questions, and NotebookLM will then use your sources to find what is relevant
Use the Studio to organise the information in a different way
Your AI-generated work should be taken as a first draft, and ensure that what is created is checked for bias and hallucinations. I have included examples below, where the prompt used can be copied and adapted to suit your needs.
The information you provide to be accessed in your Notebook
Get a summary of the information that has been added. Use the chat to find specifics from the documents, and see it as being able to question the sources of information.
Ask NotebookLM to use the information added to be seen in different contexts. The sources of information you have added can be seen as:
an audio overview, which can be of different lengths and allows you to ask questions as it plays
a video overview, choose the style and choose if it should be brief or provide a comprehensive overview
a mind map, which breaks the information into different sections
ask for a report generated in different formats
have flashcards* produced on the information
create a quiz on what has been added
have an infographic made to view the information visually
or a slide deck to allow you to present the information in the sources provided
*Flashcards can't be shared with learners directly. This video shows how it could be shared.
You could have a Notebook which has your school policies added, this way you could interrogate all of your policies with questions you have or are sent.
In this example, I will use a PDF of the annual report in the Curriculum for Wales 2024
