This Months Newsletter
There are several Cyber incident response training events still available through Hwb, you can sign up here.
As we develop the guidance in response to a cyber incident, there may be information which it is pertinent to share with you at the earliest possible time.
Co-op and Marks & Spencer are just two high-profile companies that have been subject to a data breach recently. Please ensure that, where possible, staff are using Two-Factor Authentication. If using Hwb, you will be aware of using the Authenticator app to access your emails outside of school.
Several additional applications/tools are used by schools within their processes; CPOMS, SIMS, Seesaw, and Class Dojo are just a few.
If your school is making use of an additional application where data is collected or shared, please ensure that staff have activated the Two-Factor Authentication, which will increase the security for those applications.

Dear Gavin,
There's a new threat to kids' safety, and it's probably not what you think.
New AI-powered "companion" chatbots are exploding in popularity. The popular platform Character.AI has more than 20 million users, and kids are already chatting with these bots—often without their parents even knowing.
AI companions are frequently marketed as sources of comfort or companionship, designed to act like personal, virtual friends. Common Sense Media research has found that kids turn to them for emotional support, a non-judgmental ear, and an escape from their real-world problems.
But here's the scary part: Our research also shows that these platforms can expose kids to sexual content, reinforce offensive stereotypes, and even encourage violence or self-harm.
In response to these findings, CNN published a story on our research, echoing our warnings on the dangers linked to these chatbots.
At Common Sense, we've been rating media and tech for over 20 years. Based on in-depth research, we're sounding the alarm: AI companions are NOT safe for kids under 18. Period.
These virtual "pals" have real consequences. Make sure other parents and caregivers know all the facts: Help us spread the word by sharing our findings with your friends and family on social media.
Here's what our testing discovered:
They can expose kids to inappropriate material.
The "advice" they provide can include suggestions that users hurt themselves or others.
Kids can easily engage in inappropriate sexual conversations.
Interactions can worsen feelings of loneliness or disconnection.
They can reinforce offensive racial and gender stereotypes.
They're risky for developing brains, and especially risky for kids with mental health or learning challenges.
But there's good news too: We can change this.
With more awareness, new public policies, and better-designed tech, we can create a digital world where kids are safer, more supported, and better able to thrive.
Thank you for sharing this important information with your networks.
