Brain Adaptation in Response to Learning

SUMMARY

The brain is a very complex system. It interacts with many processing systems and exchanges information all the time. These brain systems are social, cognitive, emotional, cultural functions, health and even physiological survival. The learner’s brain actively networks when it navigates through social, cognitive, and physical contexts. Each person’s brain will develop differently based on their experiences, interpretations, needs, culture, and thought patterns. Furthermore, attributes to the internal brain’s development and structure will dictate how a person engages in the world. The brain can adapt to many circumstances for example, the language and mathematics skill researchers cannot understand how a short life skill, less than 6,000 years, can play an important role in the human brain.

How is it Relevant to the Students?

  1. Students need to form connections to help the brain understand better.

  2. Each student is different based on their socioeconomic level, culture, language and many other factors, we cannot group them.

  3. The brain is very adaptable and seeks stimulation at all times.

FOR TEACHERS ONLY:

  1. Use items/things/information already known to build on knowledge and help students make connections (Help them see the bigger picture).

  2. Be flexible with your students since they are not all the same.

  3. Be mindful of their backgrounds and who they are to maximize their learning potential.

  4. Overall, students want to learn and need daily brain stimulation and what better way to teach them your subject!
