Educators must gain the interest of the students

  • A learner's interest should be considered so educators can accomodate to channel more interest.

  • Adults and trainees with little interest were shown to be more absent and show lower performance.

  • Individual/Personal- Learner's ability to make a connection with the domain and the willinglenss to re-engage to learn this domain.

  • Situational- Task or environment will make the learner interested, connecting the topic with the meaningful information.

Situational interest more effective

  • Relating students interest with real world situations.

  • Ex- Physics students learned the concepts of pump better when learning how a heart pump works in surgery.

Practices that engage students may increase their personal interest & intrinsic motivation

Reading comprehension and text recall affected the student's interest.

  1. Information was new, important or valued.

  2. Unexpected information.

  3. The text realted with the readers through experiences or prior may known knowledge.

  4. Had interesting imagery or descriptive language.

  5. If the author used analogies or comparisons to create a similar background as the readers.
