Embodied Cognition

Part 1) An individual’s experiences shapes their embodied cognition. This includes how the body reacts to everything around us. Embodied cognition is also correlated with advances in digital technology. SMALLab is helpful in having students engage and learn because they are using their bodies to interact. This is a technological application that is designed as a mixed-reality environment. The military has fancy embodied cognition technologies that help soldiers with finding hazard signals, performance, troubleshooting, maintenance etc. Mixed-reality environments are also helpful in learning languages, interacting with people etc.

Part 2) Teachers can use SMALLab to help students learn new material. This method has helped students learn about difficult topics such geological layers, chemical titration etc. This has helped improve achievement by 86%. Mixed-reality learning can also be used by teachers to help students learn new topics by giving them access to things that may once have been out of reach. for example, Students can learn new languages by playing virtual games in the target culture.
