Well-Balanced Diet

The developmental years of adolescence are extremely important to maintain a healthy diet. "Deficiencies in protein, calories, and other essential nutrients have been linked to negative effects on cognitive [and emotional] functioning." (30)

Deficiencies Are Common

Without proper nutritional balancing, young and developing students run the risk of forming deficiencies of certain key nutrients. Iron (which is rich in med meats, seafood, dark leafy vegetables and beans) is a common food found to be deficient in young students. The inability to provide oneself with enough of this nutrient can turn to learning delays with memory and cognition.

Food is Fuel

With out proper nutrition, students cannot be expected to be on their "A" game when it comes to learning. Students that have well-balanced diets have been proven to achieve higher test scores and have more fluid cognitive function. Along with this, it is important that children remain active in order to keep their digestive system regular, as iron supplementation is always aided by active motion.
