Conclusion

The usefulness of digital technology in a classroom setting cannot be overstated. That being said, evidence must be collected to prove certain technologies' worth.

The research must indicate "the technology has a positive impact in situations that are similar with respect to:

  • the types of learning and goals for learning;

  • characteristics of the learners;

  • the learning environment;

  • features of the social and cultural context likely to affect learning; and

  • the level of support in using the technology to be provided to learners and educators." (Pg. 196 How People Learn II: Learners, Contexts, and Cultures)

Three more critical conclusions from Chapter 8 are:

  • Technology should line up with the projected goals of the class

  • Professional development should be implemented for instructors so they become literate in whatever technology they are going to use

  • All students and instructors alike have the ability to gain access and use the technology being presented
