Adolescent Literacy Learning Cohort

(April 2022) Adolescent Literacy Learning Cohort Begins on 5/5: In a Learning Cohort, you can join with a group of BPS colleagues to learn together as a team. You will address a common challenge, observe effective practices through a video observation, develop ideas to bring back to your own setting, and get support as you try out new ideas. This ALC course will be facilitated by Cristina Hernández-Persia and Frank Swoboda from English High School. Together, we will address the question, “How can we support the needs of all students to engage in meaningful, rigorous literacy work?First session starts on 5/5

Spring 2022 EqLit Needs Assessment

(April 2022) School leaders: What does your staff need to learn next about equitable literacy? Use the Telescope Network’s Equitable Literacy Needs Assessment Survey to gather staff input as you identify your instructional focus and design your school's professional learning plan for next year. After your staff completes the survey, contact the Telescope Network to see the data for your school.

Virtual Edcamp for Early Childhood Educators

(October 2021) Virtual Edcamp for Early Childhood Educators 10/5: The start of the year has presented much to celebrate and many challenges for our early childhood classrooms. On October 5, the Telescope Network, along with the BPS Early Childhood Department and BPS Office of Health and Wellness, hosted an Edcamp for 63 participants. It was a chance for PreK to Grade 2 educators to share their questions and challenges, connect with colleagues from across Boston, and discuss solutions.

Connect & Share Panel Discussion Series Fall 2021

Connect & Share Panel Discussions are a chance for colleagues to come together and share ideas about what's working in their classrooms and in their schools. All topics came from the Telescope Network's June Needs Assessment Survey asking educators what they needed to feel successful in this upcoming school year.

10/21/21 Session: Addressing Gaps in Learning

(October 2021) Our third Connect & Share panel discussion session of the year took place on October 21, 2021 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on the topic of "Addressing Gaps in Learning." We had 30 educators join for this session. Session attendees gave very positive feedback for the session: 100% of participants (28 out of 28 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Some feedback from participants:

  • “I loved that teachers from various schools made it a priority to provide students a safe space, provided self-regulation strategies students could choose from and gave students the opportunity to express their emotions to self-regulate.”

  • “As a speech therapist, I really appreciated hearing from teachers and paraeducators regarding the specifics of reading instruction within the classroom. It was great to hear different perspectives.”

  • “I learned about how to do MAPS progress monitoring and its importance for my students.”

  • “I found all of the presentations really informative! It was packed with great information!”

9/23/21 Session: Balancing SEL & Content

Our second Connect & Share panel discussion session of the year took place on September 23, 2021 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on the topic of "Balancing Social and Emotional Learning & Content." We had 25 educators join for this session. Session attendees gave very positive feedback for the session: 100% of participants (17 out of 17 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Some feedback from participants:

  • "I appreciated the fact that the elementary and secondary presenters were all in one group. It was nice to hear and learn about some of the SEL practices that elementary teachers are putting in place that I can use in my secondary classes as well."

  • "I learned something from each presenter! Very affirming to see that SEL is so cherished by so many other teachers."

  • "The presenters were amazing! They had such great resources!"

8/26/21 Session: Equitable Classroom Community

Our first Connect & Share panel discussion session of the year took place on August 26, 2021 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on the topic of "Equitable Classroom Community." We had 40 educators join for this session. Session attendees gave very positive feedback for the session: 100% of participants (31 out of 31 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. One participant said, "Another great and informative presentation. Thank you!"

10.28.21 Virtual Edcamp for New Teachers - Edcamp Details

(October 2021) On Thursday October 28, new teachers, new-ish teachers, and some veteran mentor teachers joined for an Edcamp hosted by the New Teacher Development program and the Telescope Network. One participant said, “It was nice to hear that some of the teachers are experiencing the same things I'm experiencing and how they are managing it.” We had 19 participants join the session. 100% of participants (13 out of 13 exit tickets) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague.

03.03.22 Connect & Share Session for New & New-ish Educators

(March 2022) March can be a tough time for new educators: we feel tired and worn down, but there’s still so much work to do before June. Join us on March 3 from 4:30 to 6:00 on Zoom to connect with other new and new-ish educators and also hear from some expert colleagues about what’s working in their classrooms and schools. Our topics for this session will be: Supporting Diverse Learners, Finding Work/Life Balance, Building Professional Relationships, and Improving Student Engagement & Attendance.

Restorative Justice, Empathy & Loving Engagement (BLM @ School Module 1)

(February 2022) Come together with other BPS educators to learn more about the guiding principles of Black Lives Matter at School. We will spend the first part of this session learning about the theory, then hear how educators are putting the theory into practice in their own schools/classrooms. For the final segment of the session, educators will plan how to bring ideas from this session into their own schools/classrooms. Join on Zoom on February 15 from 5:00 to 6:30.
