Early Childhood Phonics Learning Site

THANK YOU for all the educators that attended the Learning site at the  Gardner Pilot Academy on the topic “How do we implement tier 1 phonics and phonemic awareness instruction to provide access for all learners?” Our host teachers were Tracy Coutts (K2 Teacher) and Christina Nelson (K2 Learning Specialist). The debrief was facilitated by Gabrielle Haywood (K2 Teacher). We had 13 participants join from 8 different BPS schools. 

After the session, 100% of participants (9 out of 9 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Additional comments from participants:

• "Thank you very much. It really makes me think of what changes I can make for Monday!"

• "So valuable to go into another classroom and observe a full lesson."

We asked, “What's one thing that went well during this session?” Sample responses:

• "I loved that we were able to speak to the teachers and ask so many questions."

• "I always enjoy watching someone else in action and bouncing ideas off of other participants. I am able to take back small things I can implement right away and think about big things for later."

• "I was able to see an excellent phonics lesson and various ways to differentiate and promote student engagement. Peer conversations provided deeper understanding.

• [It went well] observing so many great literacy practices and getting to hear about the teachers' process in learning and implementing those practices.

• The observation worked really well, it was so useful to see the teachers implementing their lessons, and then having the opportunity to debrief with them. 

• I felt so happy today! I love learning and seeing different ways to deliver lessons and meet other teachers from the district. I've always had such great time and experiences from and PD put out by Telescope.
