Student Centered IM Learning Site
In a Learning Site, educators come together for a full day in a live classroom around a common area of practice (also can accommodate a ½ day model). Participants talk with the host teacher and set goals for their own classrooms. Participants who continue the learning through virtual follow-up sessions are also able to earn an academic ladder credit.
Student Centered Illustrative Math Learning Site: If you or an educator you know is looking to see the IM curriculum at the middle grades in action, this is an opportunity to join other educators for a day in a live classroom around a common area of practice. This learning site on 2/6/24 places the question of “How do we implement IM to create student centered math learning experiences?” within the context of an inclusion classroom. Come see a 6th grade math class, led by Lirna DePina at the King K-6 School, where students are engaged in problem solving and sharing their thinking through IM curricular tasks. After the observation, educators have a chance to think through and debrief with the host teacher around the hows and whys of their teaching practice with follow up coaching sessions for an ALC/PDPs.
Time: One half school day (sub $ available)
Feedback: 99% recommended
Credits: Up to 12 PD hours or 1 ALC
Capacity: 10-15 per session
Mode: In-person
Resources: Learning Site Packet, Debrief Notes, Virtual Session Slides
THANK YOU for all the educators that attended the Learning Site at the King K-6 School on the topic “How do we implement IM to create inclusive, student centered math learning experiences?” Our host teacher was Lirna DePina (Grade 6 Math Teacher @ The King). We had 12 participants join from 8 different BPS schools and offices in this session.
After the session, 100% of participants 11 out of 11 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Additional comments from participants:

We asked, “What's one thing that went well during this session?” Sample responses:
““Getting to share ideas with colleagues, seeing REALLY great teaching in practice”
Conversations and reflection around observed practices afforded me an opportunity to see what other teachers saw that I had missed during the observation.
“Really everything! The framing we did beforehand/ LOVED the peer observation and debrief.”
