EL in Action Learning Site
In a Learning Site, educators come together for a full day in a live classroom around a common area of practice (also can accommodate a ½ day model). Participants talk with the host teacher and set goals for their own classrooms. Participants who continue the learning through virtual follow-up sessions are also able to earn an academic ladder credit.

THANK YOU for all the educators that attended the Learning Site at the at the George Conley Elementary school in Roslindale on the topic “How do we make sense of Grade 6 Expeditionary Learning to support student learning?” Our host teacher was Nia Reid-Patterson (Grade 5 @ Conley) and debrief facilitator was Keith Solle-Shah (ESL Teacher @ Conely). We had 12 participants join from 8 different BPS schools/departments join this session.
After the session, 100% of participants said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Additional comments from participants:
The length of the time for the observation. It was great to have a long amount of time to really see the lesson develop and the students produce the work.
Nia’s responses to our questions were so helpful!
The protocol was really helpful and drove a very deep discussion.
We asked, “What's one thing you learned today that might benefit your students?” Sample responses:
“The key ingredients that make this practice effective are time, patience, practice & relationships.”
“I need to think about what resources all students need to feel confident working independently because this will help make more time and space to help students with more needs.”
“I need to think about prioritizing lessons to address skill gaps for my students. It will make the pacing of my curriculum delivery more in line with the scope and sequence.”
