Cultivating Excellence with Warmth Learning Site

In a Learning Site, educators come together for a full day in a live classroom around a common area of practice (also can accommodate a ½ day model). Participants talk with the host teacher and set goals for their own classrooms. Participants who continue the learning through virtual follow-up sessions are also able to earn an academic ladder credit.

Cultivating Excellence with Warmth Learning Site 5/5: In the post pandemic environment of accountability, classroom culture is often a casualty as educators try to combat the impact of learning loss. This learning site is targeted for educators committed to maintaining high expectations, and students' achievement without sacrificing a culture of belonging. This Learning Site will address the question, "How do we leverage culturally responsive routines and structures to support high expectations and  engagement for all learners?” This site will demonstrate, within the context of an 8th grade Civics classroom, one teacher's approach to addressing the tension of caring for students with significant learning gaps and providing rigorous instruction. After the observation educators have a chance to debrief with the host teacher, and collaborate on potential takeaways. Best of all educators will earn 1 ALC while developing and implementing new ideas with the support of follow up coaching sessions.

THANK YOU for all the educators that attended the Learning Site at TechBoston Academy on the topic “How do we leverage culturally responsive routines and structures to support high expectations and engagement for all learners?”  Our host teacher was Tanisha Milton (8th Civics @ TBA). We had 7 participants register from 4 different BPS schools/departments serving populations representing grades 6-12 join this session.

After the session, 100% of participants were happy with the logistics and said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. 100% of participants strongly agreed that the learning site environment was a safe space for collaboration.

We asked, “What's one thing you learned today that might benefit your students?” Sample responses:
