Teaming for Tiered Literacy Instruction Learning Site
In a Learning Site, educators come together for a full day in a live classroom around a common area of practice (also can accommodate a ½ day model). Participants talk with the host teacher and set goals for their own classrooms. Participants who continue the learning through virtual follow-up sessions are also able to earn an academic ladder credit.
Teaming for Tiered Instruction Learning Site: Join the Telescope Network for a Learning Site hosted by Matt Ennis and Jayme Drzewinski at Ellison Parks that addresses the question “How can we collaborate to embed foundational reading instruction in grade level content to support multilingual learners and struggling readers?” After the observation educators have a chance to think through and debrief with the host teachers around the hows and whys of their teaching practice and participate in follow up coaching sessions for an ALC/PDPs.

THANK YOU for all the educators that attended the Learning Site at the Ellison Parks Early Education School in Mattapan. Our host teachers were Matt Ennis (Grade 3 SEI) and Jayme Drzewinski (Inclusion Specialist) and debrief facilitator was Tawonia Queeley (Gr 3 Inclusion). We had 7 participants join from 5 different BPS schools/departments join this session.
After the session, 100% of participants (7 out of 7 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Additional comments from participants:
The debrief with the host teachers was eye opening.
Thoughtfully planned out day
Loved seeing the teachers AND getting time to discuss with them!
It was paced very well and the end circle was perfect.
We asked, “What's one thing you learned today that might benefit your students?” Sample responses:
I observed a teacher taking risks and grew as a result
The use of word structure analysis whole group
If educators are consistent and intentional in their structures and routines, then students will be more likely to take risks in their learning.
