"Yes We CAN Talk About Race"
Monday, February 1st
4:30-6:00pm
During the BLM@School Week of Action, the BTU co-hosted a teacher-led "Connect & Share" with the Telescope Network on the topic "Yes We CAN Talk About Race" on Monday, February 1, 2021. We had 79 participants join these discussions. One of the goals of these panels was to highlight the important work of Black educators in the district and to celebrate the ways that teachers are bringing important conversations and curriculum around race, identity, and social justice into the classroom. Presenter information and materials are linked below:
Connect & Share Panel Discussions are a chance for colleagues to come together and share ideas about what's working in their classrooms and in their schools. February 1st, there will be two panel discussions, one for elementary educators and one for secondary educators. There will be a diverse group of panelists from various roles in BPS. Participants will hear a little about the panelist presentations and then will be able to choose a breakout session to hear more from the panelist about what they are doing and why it is working for their students. There will be time for Q&A in the breakout sessions.

Edcamps are “unconferences” where there is no pre-set session agenda. The New York Times describes Edcamps as “an innovative form of training with no predetermined speakers or sessions, led by the participants themselves.” At an Edcamp, participants create the session topics at the start of the event based on their interests and questions. Edcamps provide educators with a professional learning model for growing, connecting, and sharing expertise with others in the room.
Edcamp is a chance to connect, learn from each other, and figure out what topics are most important for future PDs. We hope you’ll leave with new ideas and new connections.
The Telescope Network is a BPS/BTU initiative to support teacher-driven, student-centered professional learning. Our goal is to connect BPS educators to resources, opportunities, and each other. We’ve partnered with the BLM at School BTU Organizing Committee to help plan this Edcamp.
