In a Learning Site, educators come together for a full day in a live classroom around a common area of practice (also can accommodate a ½ day model). Participants talk with the host teacher and set goals for their own classrooms. Participants who continue the learning through virtual follow-up sessions are also able to earn an academic ladder credit.
OpenSciEd Inclusion Learning Site: Join colleagues to investigate the question “How do we implement the OpenSciEd curriculum in an inclusive setting so that all students can succeed?” on 1.25.24 at Charlestown High School. This site will demonstrate one teacher's approach to this question as we observe live instruction. After the observation, participants will have the opportunity to think through and debrief with the host teacher about the hows and whys of their teaching practice. Includes a virtual pre-session and follow-up virtual sessions focused on implementing the learning in your setting. Hosted by Michelle Carroll, MS inclusion science teacher at CHS, and the Telescope Network. Earn an ALC or PD hours.

THANK YOU for all the educators that attended the Learning site at Charlestown High School on the question “How do we implement the OpenSciEd (OSE) curriculum in an inclusive setting so that all students can succeed?” Our host teacher was Michelle Carroll, 7th and 8th grade science teacher at CHS. We had 12 participants join from 10 different BPS schools.
After the session, 100% of participants (12 out of 12 exit ticket responses) said that they would recommend this session to a colleague. Additional comments from participants:
“I thought that the observation was terrific!! It was so great to observe OSE in action with live real students.”
“I learned so much from the observation (and it was nice to set my own, small and attainable goal for how I can improve my own practice)”
“Super helpful to talk to other people who are doing OpenSciEd, and to watch someone else teach it!”
We asked, “What's one thing that went well during this session?” Sample responses:
“It's hard to choose just one thing! Hearing a teacher embrace the messiness of the process of learning and how that allows her students to be themselves and share their authentic thinking and learning inspires me to do the same.”
“The importance of prioritizing "participation by all" during class discussions.”
“The classroom norms and routines that allowed students to get an incredible amount of learning out of the time that the students have together in class.”
“I am feeling more confident in finding ways to adapt the curriculum in ways to best support all of the learners in my room. “
