Edcamp
Our theme is "SLIFE Education" Join us to discuss the question “How do we start the year off strong with our SLIFE Students.” So many of us are doing our best to make it work, but we are stronger when we collaborate. Let’s join together for an Edcamp to talk about how to support students in SLIFE programs and their educators.
BPS Participants will also be awarded 2 PD hours for attending.
THANK YOU for those that attended our EDCAMP on “How do we start the year off strong with our SLIFE students?” 85% of attendees (17 out of 20 exit ticket responses) said they would recommend this session to a friend. Here are some take-aways from the exit ticket:
“It was nice to connect with other SLIFE teachers and to have a space to ask for specific support with the curriculum we are using.”
”I felt supported by other SLIFE educators, and comforted in the fact that we're all experiencing varying levels of difficulty navigating curriculum and culture.”
“Listening to the experiences of others. Sharing ideas and resources. Having coaches (OMEE and TELESCOPE) present and facilitating so that they can listen and connect us with appropriate learning and other PD experiences.”
“I learned more ideas of what others are doing and what some challenges are that I can look out for”
Based on this session, here’s some things that participants want to try in their own classrooms/schools:
“Learned about different classroom culture techniques such as circles and morning meetings.”
“A teacher suggested a great way to bring musical suggestions from students’ families into the classroom.”
“ChatGPT to ease some of the load of simplifying texts.”
What is an Edcamp?
Edcamps are “unconferences” where there is no pre-set session agenda. The New York Times describes Edcamps as “an innovative form of training with no predetermined speakers or sessions, led by the participants themselves.” At an Edcamp, participants create the session topics at the start of the event based on their interests and questions. Edcamps provide educators with a professional learning model for growing, connecting, and sharing expertise with others in the room.
Why Edcamp?
Edcamp is a chance to connect, learn from each other, and figure out together how to think through new ways to create deeper learning experiences for students. We hope you’ll leave with new ideas and new connections.
