READING MAP TEST!
After each testing session, we will get a good break outside to burn off some energy! We will spend the rest of our class time this week reading a new narrative from a book called My Story by Rosa Parks. The main learning objective is to identify evidence within a text to support the narrators point of view. Depending on the time we have remaining in class, we will also focus on comparing and contrasting an authors tone. Supporting a point of view and conveying a certain tone are characteristics of a narrative that I hope translates when the class begins writing their own narratives.
No homework this week!
*Vocabulary quizzes will be back after we finish the Reading MAP test! (Our process may look slightly different than last year.)
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week, our focus will shift to using patterns to multiply by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000. Students will explore how recognizing basic facts and patterns can empower them to mentally multiply these larger numbers with ease. They will have the opportunity to explain and demonstrate their mental math strategies, reinforcing their understanding of how zeros play a crucial role in these calculations. Additionally, students will continue to work on the concept of powers of 10, learning how to express equations by multiplying a whole numbers by a powers of 10. This approach not only simplifies their calculations but also strengthens their foundational understanding of place value.
Homework:
9/9 - SS #5
9/10- SS #6
9/11- SS #7
9/12- SS #8
9/13 - No SS Quiz
Simple Solutions Quiz Update:
This year, students will take a Simple Solutions quiz bi-weekly, which means they will have two quizzes each month. Each quiz will consist of 15 questions that align with the homework they have completed that week—some even identical to the homework questions! Students will receive a sheet with the questions and a sheet to show their work/answer the questions, just like their homework. The quizzes will be graded out of 15 points. We will grade the homework in class, giving students the opportunity to discuss any questions or review their work together before the quiz. The graded quizzes will come home the following Wednesday, so please be sure to review your child's work to help support their math understanding at home!
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
We will continue our Civics Standards Unit, where students will:
Explain the political structures of various governments in ancient civilizations.
Analyze the relationship between governance and religion in River Valley Civilizations and Classical Empires.
Describe key political institutions such as monarchy, democracy, republic, empire, and theocracy.
Evaluate the rights, roles, responsibilities, and limitations of citizenship in classical Greece and Rome.
Assess how historical, economic, geographic, and cultural factors influence social and government structures.
Last week, students were given different scenarios of the ancient civilization governments and act out in front of their classmates. See photos below. They really got into character!
This week, students are creating a hypothetical government as they are starting a new civilization. They will use their knowledge from what they learned to create these new governments.

This week in Religion, we will continue Chapter 4: The Word of God Made Present among Us. Our students will:

Come to know the similarities between God's presence in the Ark of the Covenant and the Word of God taking flesh and dwelling among us.
Learn that through God's grace, Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant.
