Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a green sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
Language Usage- Week of 9/23 - 9/27
Thank you so much to all families who helped fill our Class Shop with lots of goodies. The students and I are forever grateful!
P.S. The tape was happily used on our Civilization/Government Projects and at our Tech Free Friday!
Toothpaste Lesson
On Friday, the students had a couple of challenges: how fast could they get the toothpaste out of the tube, and then asked to put the toothpaste back inside the tube. They were asked how toothpaste and words are related. As a class, we were reminded that words may turn into rumors and we are unable to take them back, exepcially if those words are unkind. We discussed how to approach if our friends are saying rumors or unkind words and knowing that their teachers and parents are always here to help them navigate through it.
This week, we will spend Monday wrapping up our personal narrative unit. Students will get to utilize MagicSchool.ai to use AI to generate an image for their narratives. They will have to be extremely descriptive to get the image they want. This is great for developing descriptive writing skills.
Reading: We will begin Unit 2 of our Amplify curriculum, Early American Civilizations on Tuesday! The big idea of this unit is that large complex civilizations, including those of the Maya, Aztec, and Inca, developed in the Americas before the arrival of Europeans. Specifically, students will be describing, comparing, and contrasting geographical features of the regions in which the 3 civilizations developed.
Grammar: Students will identify subjects and predicates in sentences and differentiate between action verbs and linking verbs.
Morphology: Prefixes il- and -ir meaning "not"
Writing: Students will learn how to paraphrase information. Meaning, they will read information and then write it in their own words! This is good preparation for a future explanatory writing piece they will do.
Homework: Personal narrative due by Friday (I need to have proof read it one time).

Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class, we are wrapping up Module One and preparing to take a chapter test. We will start the week by working on multiplying 2-digit numbers. Last year students learned three strategies for multiplying: area model, partial products, and regrouping and were able to use whichever strategy they preferred. We will review all three strategies, but students are expected to use the standard algorithm of regrouping as their primary strategy. This will help them when we transition to multiplying decimal numbers.

Students will get some time in class to work on their study guides, but do need to ensure it is complete by Thursday, so we can go over it together prior to the test. If you child needs additional study materials, please let me know!

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Part of Social Studies and Religion this week, the students will be MAP testings in Language Usage.
Some groups started sharing their hypothetical governments as they are starting a new civilization. The rest of the groups will be presenting on Wednesday and/or Friday. Many groups shared their information on Google Slides and Skits. I will be sharing the skit videos once all groups have presented.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
This week in Religion, we will continue Chapter 5: God Enters Time and Space. Our students will:
Know the significance of the circumstances in which Jesus was born.
Learn that the purpose of the Incarnation of Jesus was to make it possible for man to become more like God through grace.
Know that God takes earthly ordinary signs, symbols, and actions, and sanctifies them and works through them.
Learn that through graces received through the sacraments, we receive new capacities.
Important Announcements:
