Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a green sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
Reading: We are reading about the Aztec civilization this week! We will read to find key details and compare and contrast that to information previously learned about the Maya.
Grammar: Students will use words or phrases in sentences to compare and contrast ideas.
EX: The Maya built pyramids. Similarly, the Egyptians built pyramids.
Morphology: Prefixes inter- meaning among, between, or together
Writing: Students will be writing the 1st draft of their Maya paragraph for their Codex project that we are working on throughout this unit. This should include an introduction sentence, supporting details, and a concluding statement. We have been working a lot on paragraph structure! They will also be choosing an image to go along with their text.
Spelling: Students will be given a list of content based spelling words, along with some activity sheets to take home to help them study. There will be a spelling test over the 10 words on Friday, Oct. 25th. I am trying out spelling according to the Amplify curriculum for the first time and I will determine if I will continue this in the future based on results and if it proves to be beneficial. Students will also learn the meaning of the words along side learning their spelling in hopes to pick up new vocabulary terms as well.

Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week students will work on dividing by 2-digit divisors using the standard algorithm. Students will start by using compatible numbers to estimate the quotient. Then using the estimate they will place their first digit in the quotient accordingly. Students will determine if that digit was too high, too low, or just right and adjust the quotient as needed. Students will also begin to look at example of situations where they may need to interpret a remainder.
Skill Plan:
Student have all receive their updated IXL Skill Plans! These plans are an excellent way to work towards their growth goal and get individualized practice! It is always encouraged to work on at home!
Homework:
Since it is a short week, we are adjusting from the typical Simple Solutions. Students will go back to the regular homework schedule next week!
-Students need to complete TWO IXL from their Math Skill Plan to 100% by Friday 10/18. If students need help with their Skill Plan, I am happy to help them in the morning during homeroom time or can arrange another time during the day if they let me know ahead of time!
-Students also need to complete TWO Reflex sessions by Friday 10/18. There will be some class time given to complete these two sessions.
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Students will continuing exploring how religion influenced government systems in early civilizations, such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China. They were paired up last week and will be working with another group to compare and contrast how religion and government are connected.

This week in Religion, we will begin Chapter 6: The Holy Family. Students will:
learn the the Temple in Jerusalem was the central place of worship for the people of Israel during Jesus' day.
learn the Jesus, Mary, and Joseph modeled justice and other related virtues through their obedience to Jewish laws and customs concerning worship.
come to know how every member of the Holy Family lived with obedience to God and one another.
begin to understand that prayer is just a response of worship to God.
know that we imitate Mary through the practice of mental prayer.

1st Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 1st Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, October 30. This will be complete on Google Classroom.
