Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a green sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
*Last week, we began our end of unit reading assessment. This assessment is split into multiple days and does not need to be studied for in advance. We are also using class time to review morphology and grammar skills we learned during our Don Quixote unit.
We will begin a new unit on The Renaissance either at the end of this week or beginning next week. After our assessments are complete, students will get to work in groups to practice and perform Don Quixote readers theatre plays!
Skills we are developing this week include:
Reading:
practice and perform readers theatre (great fluency practice!)
Morphology:
review the prefixes il–, ir–, and inter–; the suffix –ness; and the root tract.
Grammar:
review subject/verb agreement
correctly use commas to separate items in a series in a sentence
Homework: No homework (reading 20 minutes a day is ALWAYS encouraged)
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class we are continuing to work on Understand Multiplication of Fractions. We will start with an investigation where students explore the concept of determining part of a part, or multiplying 2 fractions, by folding pieces of paper into equal parts several times. With each fold, students further equipartition parts they have already made and are challenged to keep track of how many parts they have made before unfolding to check their predictions. As students name the parts they made and explain their predictions, they are invited to use the language of fraction multiplication. Throughout the week, we will continue to explore real-world scenarios in which you are taking a part of a part, or multiplying fractions.
Some students are focusing on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, based on their SS Quiz results. This is a 4th grade level skill that some need to loop back to before moving forward with multiplying fractions!
Homework:
3/3 - SS #69 (either 3 Reflex Sessions or 1 IXL from Skill Plan to 80% due Friday)
3/4- SS #70
3/5- SS #71
3/6- SS #72
3/7- SS Quiz

Global Economics, Trade, Supply Chain, We Made a T-Shirt Planet Money Activity
Students will be working on an interactive and hands-on activity that will help students to master the concept of trade, supply chain, and production as it relates to economics and personal finance. Students will use the Planet Money video series "We Made a T-Shirt" to track the complete production of making a graphic t-shirt from growing the cotton to shipping to a store near you. Students will then choose a product of their own to track and understand how it is created and possibly shipped to their homes.
The students are also working on their research projects on various topics. They are working on these in both Social Studies and Technology. Due Date: TBA.
