Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a green sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
*On Monday, the class performed their Don Quixote readers theatre plays! That wraps up our unit and we are ready to move on our next unit, The Renaissance!
Here is an overview of our new unit: The Renaissance
This unit provides students with a broad exposure to the art and literature of the Renaissance through the works of renowned masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Bruegel, Dürer, Van Eyck, Machiavelli, Castiglione, Cervantes, and Shakespeare. Students learn that the Renaissance was a cultural movement that began in Italy and swept through Europe. During the Renaissance, increased trade between European countries led to increased wealth, power, and influence of the middle class, which allowed merchants and businessmen to support artists as their patrons.
While studying the Renaissance, students review the past tense of verbs and recognize improper use of verb tenses. They also develop their understanding of prepositional phrases and correlative conjunctions. Students study the root word serv and the prefixes im–, ex–, and in–.
Our overall reading goals will be to develop an understanding of reading for purposes such as gist, explanation, details, and inferences.
Homework: Vocab Quiz Friday, Activity p. 1.4 due Friday (vocab practice)
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class students will estimate and product of 2 fractions or a fraction and a mixed number when the factors do not lend themselves to drawing diagrams. Last week we focused on modeling fraction multiplication equations, but we will not focus on solving using the standard, where we turn all mixed numbers into improper and then cross reduce. We will be wrapping up this chapter in the next week or so, therefore we will be ready for a chapter test. Date TBD, but a study guide will be available well in advance!
There is a group of students who has been focusing on adding/subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators, instead of multiplying fractions. This group will also be finishing up their unit and ready for a test next week as well!
Homework:
*If your child is already on 100% fluency through their 12's facts on Reflex, there homework is to complete 1 IXL from their Math Skill Plan (80% of higher). If your child is not yet to 100% fluency, they will complete 3 Reflex Sessions. Both assignments are due Friday 3/14.
3/10 - SS #73 (Reflex or IXL Skill Plan due Friday)
3/11- SS #74
3/12- SS #75
3/13- SS #76
3/14- No SS Quiz
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Global Economics, Trade, Supply Chain, We Made a T-Shirt Planet Money Activity
Students will be working on an interactive and hands-on activity that will help students to master the concept of trade, supply chain, and production as it relates to economics and personal finance. Students will use the Planet Money video series "We Made a T-Shirt" to track the complete production of making a graphic t-shirt from growing the cotton to shipping to a store near you. Students will then choose a product of their own to track and understand how it is created and possibly shipped to their homes.
The students are also working on their research projects on various topics. They are working on these in both Social Studies and Technology. Due Date: TBA.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
Saints Madness began last Thursday! Students are watching their iMovies and learning about several saints each day. They take notes about each saint and use that information to complete a Google Form that determines who advances.
Important Announcements:
3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours, with at least two different experiences per trimester. Their 2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, May 14. This will be complete on Google Classroom.
