Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class we are starting out next module- Understand Multiplication of Fractions. We will start with an investigation where students explore the concept of determining part of a part, or multiplying 2 fractions, by folding pieces of paper into equal parts several times. With each fold, students further equipartition parts they have already made and are challenged to keep track of how many parts they have made before unfolding to check their predictions. As students name the parts they made and explain their predictions, they are invited to use the language of fraction multiplication. Throughout the week, we will continue to explore real-world scenarios in which you are taking a part of a part, or multiplying fractions.
Some students are focusing on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, based on their SS Quiz results. This is a 4th grade level skill that some need to loop back to before moving forward with multiplying fractions!

Global Economics, Trade, Supply Chain, We Made a T-Shirt Planet Money Activity
Students will be working on an interactive and hands-on activity that will help students to master the concept of trade, supply chain, and production as it relates to economics and personal finance. Students will use the Planet Money video series "We Made a T-Shirt" to track the complete production of making a graphic t-shirt from growing the cotton to shipping to a store near you. Students will then choose a product of their own to track and understand how it is created and possibly shipped to their homes.
