This week in Math class we are preparing to start out next module- Understand Multiplication of Fractions. We will complete a few lessons where we review previous knowledge required to have success with multiplication of fractions. Students will interpret and represent an equal-sharing situation in which the number of portions does not evenly divide. We will use sharing sandwiches as a real-world example. Students will write and solve story problems involving the division of 2 whole numbers, leading to quotients in the form of fractions. Understanding what the numerator and denominator represents in a fraction will set us up for multiplication of fractions!
Some students are focusing on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, based on their SS Quiz results. This is a 4th grade level skill that some need to loop back to before moving forward with multiplying fractions!
Homework:
2/17- SS #63
2/18 - SS #64
2/19- Make sure you are all caught up on SS lessons!
2/20- SS Quiz (last one of the Trimester)

Global Economics, Trade, Supply Chain, We Made a T-Shirt Planet Money Activity
Students will be working on an interactive and hands-on activity that will help students to master the concept of trade, supply chain, and production as it relates to economics and personal finance. Students will use the Planet Money video series "We Made a T-Shirt" to track the complete production of making a graphic t-shirt from growing the cotton to shipping to a store near you. Students will then choose a product of their own to track and understand how it is created and possibly shipped to their homes.
