Reading:
Reading skills we are developing this week include:
summarize the text, identify poetic devices, and explain the effectiveness of those devices in the context of the poem “Casey at the Bat" and "Paul Revere's Ride"
examine elements of the poem and define how the poem differs from a short story
**On Thursday students will take a short end of unit assessment-They will read a poem and answer 8 questions. They will answer comprehension questions and be expected to summarize stanzas.
Homework: No homework!
**A written or typed poem must be submitted if you want to read in the poetry slam on Wednesday.
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class, we are focusing on our Chapter on Multiplying Decimals. Students will work on the chapter study guide in class. We will also focus on solving more complex word problems that involve more than one step. Students are focusing on finding an estimate first so that they have an understanding of where to place the decimal point in their product.

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
We will continue our unit on Ancient Greece. Students will be learning about the social structure, geography, life style, etc.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
We will be completing our unit on Advent. The students will be researching a saint from Advent and how that helps us know that our participation in Advent prepares us for Christ's Second Coming and for the celebration of His first coming at Christmas. They will learn that the third Sunday of Advent is Gaudete Sunday, a day of rejoicing.
Father Robert visited our class last week and spoke with us about St. Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Important Announcements:
2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours, with at least two different experiences per trimester. Their 2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, February 12. This will be complete on Google Classroom.
