Skills we are developing this week include:

Reading:

• identify main idea and key details to read for the "gist" and summarize sections

• identify the main ideas and key details in a text

• make inferences about the opportunities women had during the Renaissance using evidence from the text, “Women in the Renaissance.”

• describe the relationship between the cultural norms set for women in the Renaissance and the ways women challenged those norms.

Writing:

• plan an informational piece about a person from the Renaissance by identifying a topic and gathering evidence related to the topic

Morphology:

• use the prefix ex– as a clue to determine the meaning of words.

• use the root serv as a clue to determine the meaning of words.

Grammar:

•  identify and explain the function of prepositions and prepositional phrases in sentences

• use correlative conjunctions when writing or speaking.

Homework: Vocab Quiz Friday

This week students will be taking the Math MAP test for our final time in 5th grade! Students will have a short test session each day this week followed by a brain break. 

Friendly reminders to help students be successful:

• be on time for school

• try not to miss school for non-emergent appointments

• get plenty of rest each night

• bring a water bottle to school

Homework:

*We will still have homework this week, but reduced to only Simple Solutions. Even though it is a MAP test week, we will take a SS Quiz on Friday. Due to scheduling and short weeks, we have not had a SS Quiz since 4/21. I need to use the quiz as a check-in on our progress with homework and the skills on nightly homework.*

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush

Global Economics, Trade, Supply Chain, We Made a T-Shirt Planet Money Activity

Students will be working on an interactive and hands-on activity that will help students to master the concept of trade, supply chain, and production as it relates to economics and personal finance. Students will use the Planet Money video series "We Made a T-Shirt" to track the complete production of making a graphic t-shirt from growing the cotton to shipping to a store near you. Students will then choose a product of their own to track and understand how it is created and possibly shipped to their homes. 

Students started presenting their research projects last week and will continue presenting this week and next.

Students will complete (100%) 2 IXL-Language Usage by Friday, April 25. 

Religion: Mrs. Crush

Students will continue to review for the ARK Test that all 5th and 8th graders in the Archdiocese take in the Spring. They will be taking this test on Friday, April 25 during their Religion/Social Studies class.

• 3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours, with at least two different experiences per trimester. Their 2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, May 14. This will be complete on Google Classroom.
