We are taking the Reading MAP test this week! Students will test in 40 minute sessions daily until everyone is finished. They will get a brain break after each testing session outside or in the gym.
Friendly reminders to help students be successful:
be on time for school
try not to miss school for non-emergent appointments
get plenty of rest each night
bring a water bottle to school
If we have time to work on our Language Arts curriculum, students will be working on researching an artist from the Renaissance so they can create a TIME Magazine cover about them!
Homework: NO homework!
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week we are jumping into our next chapter - Dividing Decimals. Students will focus on dividing a whole number by a decimal as well as dividing a decimal by a whole number. In both scenarios we will start with an estimate to guide our thinking. Students will be able to explain how to use compatible numbers to estimate decimal quotients. We will focus heavily on our understanding of multiplication of decimals to model our thinking. If we are dividing 4 by 0.8, we can think about having multiple groups of 0.8, or 0.8 x ? = 4.0. If ready, we will move into dividing two decimal numbers towards the end of the week.
Homework:
*Students are given time in class to work on their Skill Plan and for morning work certain days.*

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Global Economics, Trade, Supply Chain, We Made a T-Shirt Planet Money Activity
Students will be working on an interactive and hands-on activity that will help students to master the concept of trade, supply chain, and production as it relates to economics and personal finance. Students will use the Planet Money video series "We Made a T-Shirt" to track the complete production of making a graphic t-shirt from growing the cotton to shipping to a store near you. Students will then choose a product of their own to track and understand how it is created and possibly shipped to their homes.
Students started presenting their research projects last week and will continue presenting this week and next.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
Students will continue to review for the ARK Test that all 5th and 8th graders in the Archdiocese take in the Spring. They will be taking this test on Friday, April 25 during their Religion/Social Studies class.
