LA: MR. BRITTON
This week in Language Arts class we will begin reading comprehension with daily short stories for youths from the book Flying Lessons and other stories, edited by Ellen Oh. This unit is designed to be completed daily during class with the option to complete it at home that afternoon. The grading for the written responses will have a heavier emphasis on sentence structure, punctuation, and spelling, rather than remembering the most minute details of the stories, as there is only one copy of the book and I don't expect them to remember everything. The questions are due the same day as we read the story, as classwork, and do not need to be made up if a student is absent.
Students will also be reviewing skills on IXL and Freckle Apps.
Homework:
Reading Log due Friday 5/12.
"How to Transform an Everyday, Ordinary Hoop Court into a Place for Higher Learning and You at the Podium." - Monday
"The Difficult Path" - Thursday
MATH: MRS. BENNETT
This week in Math class we are taking our Math MAP test! Students will test for 50 minutes on Tuesday and 50 minutes Thursday. If students need additional time they will have time on Friday to finish. Please make sure your student is well-rested and has a healthy breakfast, so they can perform their best!
We will also be doing some Derby activities involving math. Students will design a jockey silk and determine what type of lines and angles they used. They will also describe the polygons they used.
Homework:
5/1- SS #129 and HMH Dashboard Due Friday 5/4
5/2 - SS #130
5/3- SS #131
5/4- SS #132 (we will do this at school)
5/5- No School (no SS Quiz)
SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH
We will continue our Unit on North, Central, and South America by creating a population density map. Using our maps, we will be able to reference when we begin our Americas Project.
***If a student doesn't complete in class, they will be responsible to complete for homework. Please note that several parts of the project will have multiple class periods to work on and complete.
RELIGION: MRS CRUSH
Students will continue our next lesson on Mary, Mother of God and the Mother of the Church. They will be able to identify Mary's role in salvation history, recognize Mary as a model of holiness, and explain Mary's special role in God's plan for human beings.
Quiz on Mary : Friday, May 12 (Pages 358-363)
HW: 3rd Trimester Service Hours due Friday, May 19 (Students may turn in on Google Classroom or fill out paper copy)
SCIENCE: MRS JACKEL
House Shirts!
All third graders and new students were sorted into their houses! Students will come home in their House Shirts today. The wonderful PTO provided each students 3-8 grade with a shirt with their assigned house seal on the front (integrity, loyalty, respect, leadership). Students will wear these shirts on designated days throughout the year to promote community! These shirts will be worn for the next 2-3 years. Therefore, students need to keep up with their shirt and respect them.
Reminders:
Breakfast/Snack: There have been quite a few students who have been forgetting their snack and have mentioned to me that they haven't eaten breakfast. I have been getting snacks from the PTO Teacher Closet, but our snack supply is out. If someone wants to bring in snacks for the classroom, I would gladly store them in and hand out to those who have forgotten their snack.
THANK YOU to all families who have brought in snacks!
