This week students will continue to focus on the essential question: "How do characters and their interactions teach us lessons?" Students will continue to practice retelling strategies to demonstrate their understanding of a text, while beginning to focus on characterization. Students will also be introduced to and practice strategies that support their thinking of characters, character reactions, character interactions and the overall impact characters have on the plot, theme, and central message of a text. Students have been working closely on character development and will shift into theme based strategies over the next two weeks.
These strategies will be modeled with the whole class, then students will work independently to complete the strategies using various 4th grade level texts. We will be reading Wonder as our main read aloud/mentor text, as well as a few fiction picture books.
Students will be assessed over character development and summarizing this Thursday.
Students are learning about singular and possessive nouns, as well as reflexive pronouns.
We are analyzing well crafted mentor sentences as a class. Students are also practicing these skills on IXL, Khan Academy, and Freckle Apps.
