This week students will wrap up their focus on the essential questions:
How does the text structure help me understand the text?
How can I learn and use academic vocabulary appropriately?
Students will be focusing on the following skills:
Determine and describe the overall text structure
Know the 5 text structures (cause and effect, chronological order/sequence, compare & contrast, description, and problem & solution)
Context clues (affixes, roots, synonyms, antonyms, multiple meaning words)
We will be reading informational texts as a class to practice strategies in determining the structure of a text. Students will also be reading leveled texts and informational passages with the use of graphic organizers to organize and synthesize their thinking using text evidence.
Students will also be learning context clues to identify the meaning of unknown words. Students will also continue to work with prepositional phrases. Students are practicing these skills on IXL, Khan Academy, and Freckle Apps.
Homework:
Weekly Reading Log for week of 2/20-2/24. Due by Friday 2/24. The form is posted on their Language Arts Google Classroom.
Unit 10 Vocabulary Test will take place on Thursday, February 24. Vocabulary words have been posted on Google Classroom.
MATH: MRS. BENNETT
This week in Math class, students will begin to learn how to solve word problems that involve two and three steps using whole numbers and all four operations, specifically scenarios that require multiplication. They will write a multistep problem involving multiplication with 2-digit numbers and explain the strategy they used for solving multistep and how to assess the reasonableness of solutions.
*We will be ready for a Chapter Test next week. We will complete a study guide in class and review prior to test day. We will take the test Tuesday 2/28. The test will cover the following skills:
Multiply with Tens
Estimate Products
Represent Multiplication
Multiply with Regrouping
Solve Multiplication Scenarios
Use Equations to Solve Multistep Problems

Students are using TinkerCad to turn their constellation designs into a 3D model! We will print each students constellation using glow in the dark filament! This will allow us to enjoy our constellations from the ceiling of the classroom!
SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH
In Math Workshop, we are continuing our project, "Using a Scale to Create a Map," focusing on the West and Southwest Regions. There are a few students who have states from the Midwest Region. Each student was assigned a different states and they will be creating a map with a title, cities, geographical features, compass rose, scale, and bodies of water. Using their scale, they will create multiple step math problems. In Social Studies, we will focus on the Southwest Region and students will be doing a mini Landmark Project.
We will continue our Research Project on Kentucky Counties. Each student will be assigned a cluster of counties. They will focus on places, government, people, and events in their cluster. Students will be working on this research project in both Social Studies and Technology for the next several weekends. Mrs. Crush has divided the students into small groups to do check-ins and answer any questions. She will see 1-3 groups each class period.
RELIGION: MRS CRUSH
We will continue Ch. 8, "Witnesses to God's Kingdom. The students will be able to discuss experiences of unfairness, explore how worldly justice and God's justice differ, realize that we are called to live holy lives, and to identify ways we experience the Kingdom of God at Mass.
Test on Tuesday, February 28: Ch. 8 "Witnesses to God's Kingdom" (pages 121-130, faith words, We Believe statements, underlined text)
HW: 2nd Trimester Service Hours due Friday, February 17 (Students may turn in on Google Classroom or fill out paper copy)
