House Shirts
Students will come home in their House Shirts today! The wonderful PTO provided each students 3-8 grade with a shirt with their assigned hour seal on the front (integrity, loyalty, respect, leadership). Students will wear these shirts are designated days throughout the year to promote community! These shirts will be worn for the next 2-3 years. Therefore, students need to keep up with their shirt and ensure they are well taken care of. We appreciate your help with this!
Dec. 5- We are asking all parents and students to attend a Cyber Safety Presentation on Monday, December 5th in the Ascension church: grades 3-5, 5:30pm-7pm

Please keep the following in mind:
Please do not wear anything that makes noises, blinks lights, or will cause a distraction in class.
Students still need to be in full uniform Monday-Wednesday, but they can wear the spirit week items over their uniform.
Thursday is not an out-of-uniform day. If a student isn't dressed as a character, they need to be fully in uniform.
LA - MRS SCHMITT
This week students will finalize their focus on the essential questions:
How can I briefly and accurately express the main ideas and supporting details of the text?
How can using the text to justify my answers help me better understand what the author is saying?
Students will be focusing on the following skills:
Identify the main idea and themes
Explain how details are needed to support the main idea
Summarize text with key supporting details
We will be reading informational texts as a class to practice strategies in determining the importance of a text. Students will also be reading leveled texts and informational passages with the use of graphic organizers to synthesize and summarize their thinking using text evidence.
Students will be identifying and using roots and affixes to determine the meaning of words. Students are practicing these skills on IXL, Khan Academy, and Freckle Apps.
Students will be quizzed on roots and affixes next Tuesday.
Homework:
Weekly Reading Log for week of 12/5-12/9. Due by Friday 12/9. The form is posted on their Language Arts Google Classroom.
Unit 6 Vocabulary Words have been reviewed in class and posted on Google Classroom.
Students will be tested on Thursday, December 8.
MATH: MRS. BENNETT
This week in Math class we are discussing the Essential Question- How is math represented in art and nature? We will focus on how constellations are made up of lines and angles. Students will read a few myths on constellations such as Draco, Hercules, Scorpio, and more. Then students will be challenged to design their own constellation representing their name. We will measure the angles represented in their designs using a protractor.

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH
We will continue our unit of Geography of the United States. Students will understand that the United States has a diverse geography and various maps can be used to represent and examine the geography. They will identify and map major physical features, including mountains, rivers, lakes, and large bodies of water. They will also examine climate and vegetation maps to explore the relationship between physical features and vegetation/climate. We will begin our studies about the Midwest Region. Students will be assessed on the state capitals + states when we return from Christmas Break. They will also be researching and presenting a landmark on the Midwest Region in the next few weeks.
RELIGION: MRS CRUSH
We will complete Ch. 3, "The Ten Commandments, " in our Blest Are We workbooks. We will discuss the importance of keeping promises, learn the Ten Commandments, recognize that our relationship with God is based on the first three Commandments, learn the life of Saint Teresa of Jesus (Teresa of Avila), and pray a prayer of petition.
Ch. 3 Test: Tuesday, December 6 (Study "We Believe" states, Faith Words, underlined/highlighted words, "Ten Commandment Notes" on Google Classroom, and the Ch. 3 Review*). *We will complete the Ch. 3 Review in class on Friday, December 2.*
