LANGUAGE ARTS: MRS SCHMITT
Last week students did an amazing job reviewing routines and procedures for Reading Workshop. Students learned strategies to stay focused and set goals while reading independently. To finish out the week, students took a Word Knowledge Inventory Assessment that will allow me to analyze their word knowledge/spelling and create word lists for spelling/phonics groups.
This week students will be taking the Reading Growth MAP test. We will also continue to work on our retelling strategies that support our thinking and focus while reading independently. A reading interview will be completed by students as they continue to reflect on their reading life. Students will learn how to create proficient reading response notebook entries and will continue to work on setting goals to think about and stay focused on their reading.
I loved seeing the wonderfully decorated Language Arts notebooks that students proudly shared with the class today.
Homework:
Weekly Reading Log for week of 8/29. Students are to read each night for at least 20 minutes and document their weekly reading every Thursday on the Google Form. The form is posted on their Language Arts Google Classroom.
Vocabulary Test on Thursday, September 8. Vocabulary Unit 1 words were reviewed in class today and have been posted on Google Classroom, as well as on the Google Site Resource page titled Vocabulary. An example vocabulary test has also been posted on Google Classroom.
MATH: MRS. BENNETT
This week in Math class we are focusing on the Essential Question, "How is buying in bulk similar to our number system?" Students will explore our Base 10 number system, realizing that it is a system completely based on groupings on 10, similar to buying items in bulk. We will work on renaming and regrouping numbers using our knowledge of Base-10 through puzzles. For example, the number is 3 hundreds more than 8,940. What is the number? Students will identify the group of 10 hundreds that should be renamed as another thousand.
Homework:
Students should complete one Simple Solution lesson each night (Monday-Thursday). They are allowed to work ahead. In addition, students have one assignment to complete on their HMH Dashboards. This assignment corresponds with what is being taught in class. The purpose is to help students review material from class and communicate with parents what students are learning/monitor their progress. The assignment will be posted every Monday and due that Friday. This allows students to work around their schedules!
8/29- SS #5

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH
We will continue our unit of Geography of the United States. Students will understand that the United States has a diverse geography and various maps can be used to represent and examine the geography. They will identify and map major physical features, including mountains, rivers, lakes, and large bodies of water. They will also examine climate and vegetation maps to explore the relationship between physical features and vegetation/climate.
RELIGION: MRS CRUSH
The students will continue Ch.4 "The Lord's Prayer" in our Blest Are We workbooks. Students will be able to describe ways we communicate our thoughts and feelings, to learn how Jesus taught us to pray, to discover how prayer leads us toward God's kingdom, to learn how to respond in prayer to the Ten Commandments, and to pray the Lord's Prayer using sign language. The students will create and share their Student Led Prayers as they did last year. There have been a few changes and will be discussed in class.
