Begin writing an explanation of your issue/topic. Write about 1000 words. Please explain basic information about the topic you chose: what is the issue, what is wrong about it, what is right about it, what has happened in the past, who is on either side of the issue, how far back does this go, who is affected by it, who cares about it, etc.

Two reasons exist for writing these 1000 words. 1. Help students acknowledge and recognize the limit of what they do know about this issue they picked, and 2. Students will later create an argument related to this issue. We, the readers, need to know some basic information about the issue before we can understand what the argument is about. So, what would an uninformed person need to know about the issue you picked?
