Students are writing an essay. Students have three questions to choose from. Pick one of these:

  • What are three reasons you know the article "The Fall of the Hindenburg" is nonfiction (true)? The article uses facts. It is written in third person. It has no characters.
  • How are three people affected by the nursing home in "The Three-Century Woman"? The daughter thinks it is boring. The mom thinks it is wrong for reporters to be there. The reporters think the people who live there have nothing useful to do and no life left to live.
  • What are three ways you know that the Great-Grandma is not feeble, venerable, forgetful, absentminded? The grandmother does pranks, makes up imaginative stories without having to think about what to say next, and knows that the internet is going to change news broadcasting that will likely lead to the TV reporter losing his job.

Each question requires three examples. Each example will be in its own paragraph.

Please follow these instructions for writing each paragraph:

  1. Sentence one: Write your first example. The article uses facts.
  2. Sentence two: Write a long version of the sentence you wrote. The article contains multiple lists of facts and dates that describe the altitude of the ship, the dimensions of the ship, how many people were on the ship, how many died, and the material that the ship was made out of, among other facts listed.
  3. Sentence three: Find your answer in the textbook; copy that sentence from the textbook onto your essay answer; put that sentence inside quotation marks. One of the facts listed in the textbook is "The Hindenburg crashed on May6, 1937."
  4. Sentence four: Explain how the sentence you quote is part of your correct answer. I know that the article is nonfiction because it uses facts like the one I just quoted.
  5. Sentence five: Transition sentence for next paragraph--Do NOT write this today. Leave one or two lines blank. We will add this tomorrow.

Each essay will have an introduction (do NOT write this today), three paragraphs (do write this today), and a conclusion (do NOT write this today).
