Students have two worksheets on grammar. One worksheet is on appositives, one on sentences.

Appositives: Appositives are alternate names for nouns.

  • Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, is big.
  • George Washington, the first president, was nice.

Simple Sentence: one subject or subjects followed by one predicate or predicates

  • Bob is nice. (one subject, one predicate)
  • Bob is nice and friendly. (one subject, two predicates)
  • Bob and Sare are nice. (two subjects, one predicate)
  • Bob and Sare are nice and friendly. (two subjects, two predicates)

Compound Sentence: two simple sentences put together, must use either a semicolon (;) or a coordinating conjunction with a comma (, and ,but ,yet ,so)

  • Bob is nice; Sara is friendly.
  • Bob is nice, but Sara is friendly.
  • Bob is nice, and Sara is friendly.
