Students are writing a compare and contrast essay. A pdf example is posted below. Yesterday students filled out a chart to help them write the essay. This assignment is concerned with organization only. This writing is focused only on organization, not word choice, sentence fluency, voice, or conventions. Students are following an organizational pattern and are putting specific ideas into appropriate locations.

Write two essays. Turn your chart into an essay. Here is how:

Essay 1: (block by block)

  • All information in the first column of your chart (columns go up/down, rows go right/left) goes into one paragraph
  • Put all information in the second column into your second paragraph
  • Put all information in the third column into your third paragraph
  • Last, put all information in the last column into your fourth paragraph
  • Done. Now write essay 2

Essay 2: (point by point)

  • All information in the first row of your chart goes into your first paragraph
  • All information in the second row goes into your second paragraph
  • All information in the third row goes into your third paragraph
  • All information in the fourth row goes into your fourth paragraph
  • All information in the fifth row goes into your fifth paragraph

Note: We are NOT working on introductions, conclusions, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, or voice.

We ARE working on ideas and organization.
