Lally's baptism

I explained to the children in our Godly Play class that Lilly  was going to be baptised, when a little girl called Paige, looking very surprised, asked me, ‘Will that make her real?’

I didn't understand what she meant at first, for Lilly was one of her closest friends who had at last decided that it was time for her to become a baptised Christian.

Then I suddenly realised what was in Paige's mind. You see in that Godly Play club we also had a puppet which had a very similar name to Lily's. The puppet's name was in fact Lally, and she had thought I had been referring to Lally our puppet!

I then understood what she meant by her words

‘Will that make her real?’

But in a sense Lilly, the person,  is being made real today…she's being baptised and that means she is a brand new creation in Christ!

Today she passes into life...new life"

Being real is the same as being alive!

The bible talks of us being dead in our sins and alive to Jesus.

‘Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ, even when we were dead in our sins-it is by grace we have been saved.  Eph 2.4.
