A Deadly Stalemate

Luke 23.2-5; Matthew 27. 15-26

The final drama about Holy Week by the pupils of Churchill Community College. These dramas have had a hint of 'current affairs' about them and are linked to the story of Holy Week. My thanks to Stacey, Emma, Sam, Leigh and Kurt and of course Mrs de Jager for her support and encouragement.

My name is Pontius Pilate, and I have a real problem brewing downstairs. Perhaps you can help me sort the situation out.

Please hear me!

I have a prisoner, Jesus of Nazareth, to all accounts innocent of the charges made against him, and I would set him free but it's going to cause a lot of trouble here, if I do that.

You see…

There's the Jewish council who are determined that this man should be put to death.

The reasons they give are quite straightforward. This man Jesus, claims to be King, and we all know that the emperor is King and we must not upset him.

They say that if I don't crucify him, I am not Caesar's friend !

Hypocrites,that's what they are!

They don't respect the emperor… they just want this Jesus dead!

Then there's my wife who had a dream about him, and this greatly upset her. She says I must have nothing to do with him, this Jesus..

This man does not deserve death. I've questioned him and he seems …O.K. !

What shall I do?

I feel like washing my hands of the whole business….!

THAT'S IT!

I'LL JUST WASH MY HANDS OF THE WHOLE BUSINESS!
