A Case of Mistaken Identity

 Luke 22. 54-71

Another drama written with the help of Churchill Community High School students.

These dramas have each had a 'current affairs' connection, and the script writer students were actually brave enough to perform these dramas for the other students in school. They did really well, and have grown so much in confidence. My thanks to RE teacher Ms de Jager for her support, and for inviting us to try our ideas out.

A Case of Mistaken Identity is based upon the Derek Bond mistaken identity news item, where a pensioner was mistaken for a criminal wanted by the FBI, in South Africa.

Announcer:

So is he Simon, an innocent fisherman from Galilee or is he indeed the man Interpol are searching for, Peter, the right hand man of Jesus of Nazareth, who was arrested this evening for proclaiming himself King of the Jews.

Could it not be that Simon and Peter is one and the same person?

We go over to the High Priest’s Court in Jerusalem Square where the accused is being held, by the temple guards.

Peter: I’m the innocent victim of mistaken identity. I’m being held by the palace guard and I don’t know why?

Reporter: Are you a disciple of Jesus of Nazareth?

Bystander: Yes he is!

Peter: No I’m not

Bystander:Yes you are!

Reporter: We have a witness here who says that she too saw you in Jesus’ company. You are his right hand man are you not?

Bystander: He certainly is!

Peter: No I’m not.

Bystander: You certainly are!

Reporter: This man said he saw you in the olive grove with Jesus.

Bystander: He cut our Fred’s ear off.

Peter: No I never!

Bystander: Yes you did. He’s definitely one of them

Reporter: ‘Ear! ‘Ear.I think so too.

Announcer: Simon the Fisherman faces a death penalty if he is found to be Peter the right hand man of Jesus. What do you think?

(cock crows and Peter begins to weep)
