Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids
Ten bridesmaids took their lamps,
And went to greet the groom.
Five of them were sensible,
The rest left their brains at home!
The wise ones brought their flasks of oil,
For they were bright and keen
The others five were unprepared,
And no oil could be seen.
Don't delay, watch and pray!
Get ready today, He's on his way!
That night the bridegroom was delayed,
So the drowsy maidens slept.
But when he came, five trimmed their lamps
And the foolish maids all wept!
“Oh won’t you share your oil with us?”
Up went the mighty shout.
“Cos if you don’t, we’ll miss the feast,
Our lamps are going out!”
Don't delay, watch and pray!
Get ready today, He's on his way!
“There’s not enough,” the wise ones said
“You knew it would be so!
You should have brought some extra oil.
To the dealers you must go!”
They ran off to the dealer’s house,
While the others all stayed put.
And when the foolish ones returned
The door to the feast was shut!
