When her baby Samson was born, his mother was told by an angel to set him Samson apart for God.

He became extremely strong, a brilliant fighter and leader of men. He was charming and fun to be with, and a spiritual man.

However he was also a very weak man. He had a quick and violent temper and often went against good advice.

He loved foreign women, and this brought him into trouble when he told one of them, Delilah, his great secret, that his strength which would leave him if his hair was ever cut.

Delilah betrayed his secret. As a result, Samson was blinded and thrown into jail.

No matter how special our gits or how many gifts we have, if we have no self-control, then we're in danger of losing or misusing those gifts.

17 Samson and the Source of his Strength:

Judges 16. 4-31 (to tune ‘Oh dear, what can the matter be?’)

Chorus;

Oh dear, what can the matter be?

Sam~son’s girlfriend, Delilah, is here again,

asking his secret, but he smiles politely,

and he will not tell her, so there!

He told her the source of his strength was in tying

seven strong thongs round him; so then she tried it.

While he was sleeping, the soldiers came creeping.

“SAMSON THE PHILISTINES ARE UPON YOU!”

But Samson, he just didn’t care.

The real source of strength was his hair!

CHORUS: Oh dear . . .

He told her the source of his strength was in tying

some very new ropes round him; so then she tried it.

While he was sleeping, the soldiers came creeping.

“SAMSON THE PHILISTINES ARE UPON YOU!”

But Samson, he just didn’t care.

The real source of strength was his hair!

CHORUS: Oh dear . . .

He told her the source of his strength was in weaving

the braids of his hair in a loom; so she tried it.

While he was sleeping, the soldiers came creeping,

“SAMSON THE PHILISTINES ARE UPON YOU!”

But Samson, he just didn’t care.

The real source of strength was his hair!

CHORUS: Oh dear . . .

He finally told her, she nagged him so bitterly,

“Shave off my hair and my strength it will leave me!”

So this she did, and she called out one last time,

“SAMSON THE PHILISTINES ARE UPON YOU!”

They blinded him, threw him in jail!

But that’s not the end of the tale!

Chorus Two: Oh dear what can the matter be?

Time has elapsed and his hair has grown back again.

Got his revenge, by destroying the temple,

and killing his enemies there. Oh yeah!
